Medium large wader, widespread breeding species across Britain and Ireland. We do have large flocks of these birds here in the reserve. They are to be seen, both in the reserve, during the breeding season,in the fields during winter, and they can always be seen on the shoreline foraging for food.A very handsome bird, beautiful colours in their plumage. They are also a very aggressive bird, and when breeding on the reserve, they are constantly at war with the gulls, defending their eggs and chicks, thereby they do help to protect the smaller species breeding on the reserve,ie the Ringed Plover
